The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) resource inspection team visited the Department in November 2007, and approval to admit students to the department was granted with effect from October 2017. What we do in the Department of Architectural Technology

Overview

The Department was established by the Academic Board led by late Dr. R.A. Oloyo and a Co-ordinator was appointed by the Management to midwife the proposed department in September, 2007. The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) resource inspection team visited the Department in November, 2007, and approval to admit students to the department granted with effect from October, 2017. A substantive Head of Department was appointed in person of Arc. O.O. Aluko in January 2008. The first students were admitted in the 2008/2009 Academic session. Full Accreditation was granted for the National Diploma Programme (ND) in 2009 and expired October 1st 2014. An interim accreditation was given for the Higher National Diploma (HND) in 2010 and expires October 1st 2012. The first set of ND graduates was produced in 2010 while the first set of HND was produced in 2012. The Department started with six pioneering Staff namely, Arc. O.O. Aluko the then Head of the Department who was seconded from the then Department of Town and Regional Planning now Urban and Regional Planning, others were purely new staff grafted from all areas of Professional practice and civil service, they were Arc. A.A. Aiyegbajeje, Arc. M.E. Olubodun, Arc. O.O., Ogunbanjo, Mr. O.A. Adetona, Mr. O.H. Rodipe, and Mr. A.V. Adaradohun who joined a few months later.

Our Objectives

The department is aimed at producing higher technicians for the architectural professions and other sectors of the building industry they will be able to interpret technical drawings and specifications and incorporates such details in the architectural working drawings; Supervise construction works and makes progress reports on simple structures, make presentation drawings of architectural works and draw detailed perspectives with necessary renderings and requisite color scheme;

Applicants seeking Higher National Diploma [HND] admission must possess the basic entry requirements for the National Diploma Programme.  In addition, the applicant must possess the ND in Architectural Technology obtained at not less than the Lower Credit level from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro or from any other Polytechnic accredited for the programme, or its recognised equivalent plus a minimum of one [1] year post qualification relevant industrial work experience. The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her official academic transcript under confidential cover to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) PROGRAMMES

WAEC,GCE[O/L],SSCE,NECO,NABTEB or equivalent with Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two subjects from the following:  Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography, Further Mathematics, Economics/Commerce, Religious Knowledge, Technical Drawing/Graphic Design, Painting and Decoration, Civic Education, Building Construction, Wood Work,  Basic Electronics,  Computer Studies, Blocklaying, Bricklaying & Concrete Work, Financial Accounting, Draughtsmanship/ Graphic Design, Introduction to Building Construction, Machine WoodWorking,  Electrical Installation & Maintenance Works, Computer Craft Practice,    A pass Technical Drawing will be an advantage.
