The Federal Polytechnic was established on July 1979. It opened for operation with students at the Temporary Site, Anglican Grammar School, Ilaro. In the School of Management, Two (2) departments were created in 1979. The first one was Department of Business Administration headed with Mr. Olusegun Odunsi as the Pioneer Head of Department, the second Department was Secretarial Administration and the Coordinator was Mr. B. O. Ogunyinka of blessed memory. In 2008, under the leadership of Dr. R. A. Oloyo, the Department of Secretarial Administration was moved from the School of Management Studies to the School of Pure and Applied Sciences. Similarly, in 2017, Arch O. O. Aluko Ph.D created a new School, the School of Communication and Information Technology; consequently, Office Technology Management (OTM) was moved from Pure and Applied Sciences to the new School. The First Director of the then School of Business Studies now School of Management Studies (SMS) from 1979 to 1982 was Mr. Olusegun Odunsi. The former Secretarial Studies now Office Technology Management (OTM) started as the second Department under the Business Administration Department at the former School of Business Studies (now School of Management Studies). The School presently has eight (8) departments and as at today, it has the largest number of students. I hope this history will be found useful to the students in the School of Management Studies and other students of the Polytechnic. Be steadfast, dutiful, diligent, and focus in your academics; also, avert joining a cult and any other unregistered organizations in the Polytechnic. My Dear students, you are welcome to the serene academic world of excellence.
