STUDENT SAFETY ADVISORY AND RESTRICTION ON THE USE OF MOTORCYCLES (OKADA) ALONG ILARO-PAPALANTO ROUTE.

STUDENT SAFETY ADVISORY AND RESTRICTION ON THE USE OF MOTORCYCLES (OKADA) ALONG ILARO-PAPALANTO ROUTE.

The Management wishes to once again, remind all Students that their safety and wellbeing remain a top priority.  Recent reports of insecurity and road accidents within and around Ilaro Town have made it necessary to renew our earlier Safety Advisory.

Students are strongly advised to be extra vigilant at all times. Kindly observe the following:0

1.   Avoid taking commercial Motorcycles (Okada) along the Ilaro-Papalanto Road.That route remains extremely dangerous due to heavy truck movement and past fatal incidents.  Taking Okada or Tricycles on the route is highly unsafe and can be suicidal;

2.   Use Okada only within the Town and ensure you identify the approved riders who wear the official reflective jackets;

3.   Do not stay out late or move alone at night.  Always walk in groups whenever  possible; and

4.   Be security conscious and report any suspicious movement or harassment immediately to the Security Unit or the Directorate of Student Affairs.

Furthermore, the Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA) has been mandated to convene a meeting with the leadership of the Okada Riders Association in Ilaro. The purpose is to reinforce the agreement that all registered Okada riders operating on and off campus must wear identifiable jackets for easy recognition by students and security personnel.

Students are therefore urged to take these instructions seriously in their own best interest.

Thank you.
