FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ILARO HOSTS 53RD BURSCON MEETING AMID TRANSITION SIGNALS

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro recently hosted the 53rd meeting of the Bursars’ Association of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology, drawing Bursars and Financial Administrators from institutions across Nigeria in a gathering marked by reflection, collaboration, and forward-looking discussions.

The event, which held at the institution’s HMT Main Kitchen Complex, may represent a symbolic milestone for the host institution, as it could be among the final BURSCON meetings it will attend in its current status, following ongoing efforts toward its transition to a university.

In his welcome address  the host Bursar Dr. M. B Akinola FCTI. FCA delivered a robust address, warmly welcoming delegates and emphasizing the importance of stewardship discipline, accountability, and innovation in sustaining the growth of tertiary institutions. He described the meeting as a strategic platform for strengthening institutional capacity and fostering professional excellence.

In his keynote charge, the Rector and Ag. Vice Chancellor of the Polytechnic, Dr. M. A. Akinde  FCA,FCTI, ACS underscored the critical role of bursars in institutional development, particularly in an era that demands transparency and adaptability. 
He encouraged participants to remain committed to global best practices as the sector continues to evolve.

Also speaking, the President of BURSCON, Dr. Nweke Ukaamaka Pepertua, FCA highlighted the need for continuous professional development among bursars, noting that the association remains a vital platform for knowledge exchange, policy alignment, and collective progress within Nigeria’s tertiary education system. 

The Vice President and Patron of the association were also in attendance, reinforcing the significance of the gathering.

Goodwill messages from leading professional bodies, including Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, congratulated the association on its 53rd meeting. 

They urged members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to continue mentoring emerging student accountants, equipping them to align with best practices across institutions nationwide.

Deans of Schools were present at the meeting to show support to the Bursary Unit and the Bursar in particular for the success of the meeting 

Participants drawn from various institutions across the country engaged in sessions that promoted collaboration, networking, and the exchange of ideas, further strengthening the collective commitment to excellence in financial administration.
