Summary of Profile

Tpl Olasunkanmi Olapeju, PhD has his biological linkages fully rooted in the royal satellite community of   Oke-Ido and its parent quarter-Owani in Idoani, Ondo state. He graduated from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the Federal University of Technology Akure as one of the best three students in his first degree. He proceeded by obtaining Masters of Technology degree in the same discipline of Urban and Regional Planning in the same Federal University of Technology Akure, and graduated top of his class. He went ahead to obtain his PhD in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Technology Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia) in Malaysia, and set a yet to be broken graduation record in his research group.  He is a corporate member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and equally registered with the Town Planning Registration Council (TOPREC). He currently lectures at  the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State, Nigeria. He is a strategic thinker, thorough-bred intellectual and a creative writer who has to his credits over 65 publications, which include international journals, proceedings at international conferences and book chapter contributions. He has served as a reviewer to many reputable journals.

Dr Olasunkanmi Olapeju is a consummate multitasker who is committed to several leadership roles in his organisation.  For instance, he is the current Head, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro. He previously served as Ag. Director, Training and Development (UNESCO-NBTE Center) of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro. He is a serving member of the Board of Directors of The Polytechnic International College, member of the Institution’s Strategic Planning Committee, member of the Institution’s Applied Research Committee, member of the Institution’s Committee on Grants' Proposal Submission, member of the Institution’s Committee on Senate Public Hearing for the Conversion   of The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro to University of Technology, Ilaro, among others.  He had served as   the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro’s Project Coordinator for Strategy Implementation Task Office for Presidential Executive Order No. 5 (SITOPEO-5) and then as Desk Officer for the UNESCO-UNEVOC programme, and the Coordinator of the International Psychometric Center.

Dr. Olasunkanmi Olapeju  has  conceptualised, developed, and won enviable grant awards for his institution, part of which is the  illustrious UNESCO-UNEVOC Bonn's grant for piloting new approaches and modalities to become more inclusive TVET Institutions project, which was won in the year 2022. He ideated and developed the project, whose report was adopted by UNESCO-UNEVOC Bonn in its 2025’s 117-pager Practical Guide in respect of Piloting New Approaches and Modalities to Become More Inclusive TVET Institutions (Page 61-62 of the Practical Guide.  Similarly, he notably attracted for the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State, its first National Research Fund’s Grant Award (TETFund sponsored) in respect of the project titled: Flood Risks Vulnerability Assessment and Modelling in Abeokuta using GIS and Structural Equation Model: A Climate Change Adaptation Plan. In the year 2023, he further ideated and developed another proposal titled: Assessing the Viability of Green Sukuk as a Funding Alternative for Climate Change and Energy Poverty Mitigation in Nigeria, which culminated in another National Research Fund’s Grant Award (TETFund sponsored), and one of the two grant awards won by his institution for the year. Moreover, he ideated and developed another National Research Fund’s (TETFund) Grant (Nineteen Million, Three Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira, Only) won by the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in respect of Erosion Risk Vulnerability Assessment in Ogun State, Using Machine Learning Models, GIS, an Index-Based Approach, and Structural Equation Modelling. Professionally, he functions as an environmental and development consultant involved in the preparation of various Environmental Impact Assessment projects, master plans, campus master plans, and urban renewal schemes.

As an incurable federalist, he had since identified with the more congenial centrist ideological locus for public policies’ interrogation and good governance advocacy, believing that the political economy must be opened up and activated for potentials’ unleashing, the stimulation of growth-poles, and the attendant ramping of revenues to fund impactful public projects, in a pragmatist manner that ensures that the weakest in the society are insulated from the vagaries of market forces’ interplay. He is married and endowed with lovely kids.
