Specifically, trainees will be able: To understand the nature and the purpose of physical planning at the local, state, regional and national levels To understand the origins, spatial patterns and forms of urban and rural settlements, and the factors that determine and shape their structure To understand the concepts, theories and techniques that can be adopted to plan or re-plan urban and rural settlements To understand the laws that guide the arrangement of land uses, Town Planning Profession and Practice To understand the technique of preparing Environmental Impact Assessment Reports on the location of major physical developments. On completion of the Higher National Diploma programme in Urban and Regional Planning, the graduates should be able to: Understand the nature and purpose of physical planning at the national, regional, state and local levels Understand the role of physical planning in economic development Understand the general social, economic, political and legal basis of physical planning in Nigeria; iIentify and analyse physical planning problems and other solutions to them Assist in the preparation structure/master plans Prepare technical reports of various types and on various planning issues Advise planning policy and decision makers. |
