National Diploma Building Technology, ND (BT) Mode of Study: Full-time Timetable: Day Duration: 4 Semesters Higher National Diploma Building Technology, HND (BT) Mode of Study: Full-time Timetable: Day Duration: 4 Semesters Course Objectives The National Diploma in Building Technology is aimed at producing middle level technicians that are capable of performing basic functions in Building Technology practice both, in private and public sectors. The objectives are to produce a graduate that will assist the professional expert in low-rise building production in such aspects as: Preparation of Bills of Quantities and tender documents Management of site works Maintenance of existing buildings Examination of building plans for conformity to building regulations Carrying out of repairs rehabilitation, improvement and alteration of existing building and related structures Selection of materials and techniques for new building systems Ensure safety, welfare and quality assurance in building construction and maintenance. The Higher National Diploma course in Building Technology is designed to prepare higher level Building Technicians/Technologists for the building industry. On completion of the programme, the graduate will be able to: Prepare programme and progress chart for housing projects Supervise and control the construction of buildings from setting out to final completion Extract and compile schedule of materials required for construction from architects and engineer’s drawings Design and make working drawings of medium size building structures and interpret working drawings of all types of building Carry out site measurements for reparation of bonus schemes for workmen and for interim and final accounts for the contractor’s claim Prepare medium size bill of quantities for lump sum contract Compile simple estimates for minor works; analyse and price simple bills of quantities Carry out inspection of buildings and other properties including estate roads and undertake the repairs and maintenance of works Carry out structural survey of existing buildings and prepare schedule of dilapidation and repairs. |
